Working out where your domain, email and website sit can often be a daunting task. This guide will help explain what the three elements are and how to manage them.

1/ REGISTERING A DOMAIN
A domain name is the address of your website, for example, ours is www.cleanslatewebsites.com Most websites will use common extensions such as .co.uk or .com With .com being the most popular extension choice, there are plenty of other options out there if you want to be more creative with your address.

You may already have your domain hosted with a registrar such as GoDaddy, 123-reg or Fast Hosts, etc. This is not a problem as we will guide you through connecting your domain to your Squarespace website. If you are yet to purchase your domain then we suggest you use Squarespace to purchase the domain.

Within the Squarespace platform you have three options with regards to your domain:

  1. Purchase your domain via Squarespace

  2. Connect your current domain to Squarespace

  3. Transfer your current domain to Squarespace

Whichever option you chose, we will guide you through the process later on in the course.

2/ WEBSITE HOSTING
When you become a Squarespace customer you automatically use them for hosting your website. There are a couple of choices regarding the plan level you can sign up to and depending on the nature of your site, you can chose Personal, Business or Ecommerce plans. We will cover the details and help you choose the right plan later in the course.

3/ EMAIL
Having an email address that matches your domain name is the most professional option - for example kelly@cleanslatewebsites.com. A professional email also works more effectively if you are planning on sending email campaigns in the future.

If you already have a domain hosted with a third party supplier you may also have an email attached to it. In this case you have the option of keeping your current registrar as the host of your domain and email/s.

If you are yet to purchase an email then we would recommend you use Squarespace to purchase your domain and then your custom email as it simplifies the process significantly. When you purchase your domain you will be prompted to add an email at this stage.
